Charity (Sadaqah)
Sadaqah in Islam refers to a voluntary act of charity performed with the sole purpose of pleasing Allah (subhanahu wa-Ta’ala) and without expecting a substitute in return. In Arabic, the word ‘Sadaqah’ literally means ‘righteousness’ and stems from the root word ‘sidq’, which means sincerity; implying that Sadaqah is the sincerity of faith and a righteous behaviour that leads to a healthy and balanced society.

The Belconnen Musallah serves an important function in the Muslim community and requires financial assistance in ongoing maintenance and expenses. It is humble request to please generously donate to the Musallah as The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Sadaqah (charity) does not decrease wealth” [Sahi Al-Muslim] and according to another narration the beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said ‘Charity extinguishes the sins like water extinguishes fire. [Ibn Majah].
The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), said ‘Give the sadaqah without delay, for it stands in the way of calamity.’ (Tirmidhi)
As Muslims, we believe that this life is a test and one way Allah tests our faith is through hardships. So, giving Sadaqah during a time of hardship shows strong iman and gratitude to Allah and it is only He, with His infinite mercy that can change a person’s situation, ‘Allah removes what He wishes and establishes what He wishes, for He has the Mother of Books’. [13: 39]
Baab As-Sadaqah is one of the eight gates of Jannah. This door only allows those believers to enter who was charitable and gave Sadaqah in the way of Allah, whether to their parents, orphans, widows, the sick or any other person in need. Giving Sadaqah allows you to enter Paradise through this gate.
But those who feared their Lord will be driven to Paradise in groups until, when they reach it while its gates have been opened and its keepers say, “Peace be upon you; you have become pure; so enter it to abide eternally therein”. [Quran, 39:73]
Can I give sadaqah to mosque?
Sadaqah can be given in many ways, from monetary donations made online from home or in person at the mosque, to physical donations such as goods or clothes. Sadaqah Jariyah can even be given to provide an education to others about Islam and the Quran, ensuring that they can pass on their knowledge and teach others.
